The Clicks Communicator is launching in December with 12GB of RAM, and the people building it went on record to explain why they chose now. Episode 45 of The Sideload puts Kevin Michaluk and Jeff Gadway from Clicks across the table from Will and Daniel Bader to answer the hard question: why ship a first-generation smartphone into a market defined by a RAM supply crisis.

The conversation earns its runtime. Michaluk, the former CrackBerry figurehead, is not a neutral voice on physical keyboards, and Gadway is the product person who had to translate nostalgia into a shipping spec. The tension between those two roles produces the most useful part of the episode: a frank breakdown of what the team cut, and why focusing on fewer things was a survival decision, not a marketing one.

If you have ever watched a hardware startup try to be everything and fail at all of it, this episode explains the discipline required to avoid that outcome. The December ship date is close enough that these answers will be testable soon.
