Microsoft is killing Teams' Together Mode. The AI-powered feature, launched in 2020, used background segmentation to isolate users' heads and shoulders and composite them into a shared virtual space, auditoriums and conference rooms included.
The retirement is rolling out gradually, replaced by what Microsoft calls simplified meeting layouts. Together Mode reduced visual noise during calls, but its novelty features, shoulder taps and virtual high fives, undercut its credibility as a serious productivity tool.
