The LR2021 LoRa chip contains a hidden software-defined radio, unlocked by researcher Samson1te and published on GitHub. The chip provides a 16-bit SDR with both receive and transmit capability, a 2.4 GHz radio, and a second radio covering 150 to 960 MHz. That sub-GHz range is what separates this from the ESP32 SDR discovery made just weeks earlier.
The project is early but functional. The primary demo runs P25 digital voice. Full documentation is available in the repository for anyone ready to build on it. Samson1te surfaced this in a comment on a Hackaday receive converter post, framing it as a companion to the ESP32 work.
Read the full piece to understand how the 150-960 MHz range changes what is possible compared to the ESP32 approach, and why two hidden SDRs appearing in consumer wireless chips within weeks of each other is not a coincidence worth ignoring.
