Figma has launched AI agents directly on its canvas, now in open beta. Designers can prompt agents to build and modify designs in real time, inside the tool they already use, not in a separate interface.
The key technical detail is 'skills': a mechanism for feeding agents context about your team's specific decisions, constraints, and design intent. This is not generic AI autocomplete. It is a system meant to reflect how a specific team actually works.
The open beta status means behavior will change, and the full announcement at figma.bot/AgentstoCanvas contains implementation specifics worth reading before forming an opinion on what this actually replaces.
