Salesforce and Anthropic launched Claudeforce on Tuesday, a plugin that embeds 37 pre-built sales skills directly into Claude CoWork, letting sellers query, update, and act on live CRM data without opening Salesforce. Pilot access starts now. Open beta ships in September. The architecture runs through Salesforce's MCP servers, inheriting existing user permissions at the admin level so no per-user configuration is required. One connection, centrally authenticated, permissions enforced automatically.
The backstory is worth reading in full. Salesforce released its Headless 360 API layer in March at TDX, explicitly inviting agents to consume its platform without a human-facing UI. Customers flooded in, Claude dominated usage, and friction became the bottleneck. The solution came from Anthropic's own internal operations: Anthropic already ran Salesforce almost entirely through Claude and a set of custom skills and MCP servers. The two companies productized that internal setup into what became the CoWork plugin. Patrick Stokes, Salesforce's president of applications and marketing, framed the ambition directly: this is meant to do for knowledge workers what Claude Code did for developers.
The business model tension is real and unresolved. Salesforce bills for headless API consumption based on license edition. Anthropic bills separately for Claude inference. Stokes acknowledged you cannot buy both on a single contract yet. That two-invoice structure points at the deeper disruption: if agents replace humans as the primary consumers of SaaS functionality, per-seat pricing loses its foundation. Salesforce is positioning API consumption as the replacement metric. Whether that bet holds as competitors and Claude itself expand is the question this partnership does not answer.
