ReactOS 0.4.16 is out. The open-source Windows clone, built from scratch since the 1990s to run 32-bit Windows applications and drivers natively, ships its biggest usability improvement in years: a unified graphical installer that eliminates the separate live and install ISO workflow.
The release also adds high-definition audio driver support, video bug fixes, and a headless server install mode that suppresses the GUI entirely. The most consequential long-term change is version syncing with upstream dependencies like WINE, meaning ReactOS will now inherit compatibility gains from that project automatically rather than lagging behind.
Read the full release notes to understand exactly which driver subsystems changed and how the installer architecture was restructured. If you maintain legacy industrial hardware or run software that requires an early-2000s Windows environment, this project is the only open-source path forward, and it is moving faster than most people realize.
