OOMWOO is a fully open-source robotic vacuum cleaner with no cloud dependency, built on a Raspberry Pi running ROS 2 and navigating via a 2D lidar system kept deliberately cheap.
Most structural parts require a 3D printer, but the software stack is largely complete and integrates with Home Assistant out of the box. The bill of materials is still in progress, and active contributors are currently focused on adapting 3D-printed components to off-the-shelf parts. Everything lives on the project GitHub page.
This matters now. The Roomba ecosystem is unstable, iRobot's future is uncertain, and subscription creep is eating consumer hardware. OOMWOO is not finished, but the architecture decisions, the ROS 2 integration, and the community contribution model are worth studying before the project hits v1.
