Google is building a second-generation Google TV Streamer. According to 9to5Google, the device is confirmed in active development and will include onboard microphones, presence sensing hardware, and a redesigned remote control.
Those three additions matter. Presence sensing means the device detects when someone enters or leaves a room, enabling automatic playback and power behavior without a button press. Microphones bring always-on voice input directly to the hardware, cutting out the remote entirely for basic commands. These are not incremental spec bumps. They are architectural shifts in how the device interacts with its environment.
The original Google TV Streamer launched in 2024 as a direct replacement for the Chromecast with Google TV. A follow-up this soon suggests Google is treating the platform seriously, not as a side project.
