Reed Hastings is leaving Netflix. The cofounder and chairman will not stand for re-election to the board when his term expires at the June Annual Meeting, confirmed in Netflix's Q1 2026 earnings letter released Thursday.
Hastings cofounded Netflix in 1997, ran it as CEO from 1999 to 2023, then stepped back to chairman. That is nearly 30 years of direct involvement with one company. His departure closes a founding-era chapter, not just a board seat.
