The Orico TCM2-C3 M.2 USB enclosure has a documented failure mode: early revisions using the JMicron JMS583 controller IC stop working over time. The root cause is a design choice by Orico to run the JMS583's 1.0V core voltage input at the datasheet minimum of roughly 0.95V, presumably to cut power consumption. Component drift eventually pushes that voltage below the threshold the controller needs to start, producing an unresponsive USB device and the reasonable assumption that your data is gone.
Mark Furneaux documented a fix several years ago and has now confirmed it still holds: bump the core voltage back toward the nominal 1.0V. The tradeoff is additional heat from the JMS583. Later TCM2-C3 units quietly swapped the JMicron controller for a Realtek chip under the same model name, and the Realtek revision has proven meaningfully more reliable.
