Figma Motion uses keyframes as one of its two core animation methods. A keyframe pins a specific value to a layer property at a precise point in time. Set a second keyframe for the same property with a different value, and Figma Motion interpolates the transition automatically.

The mechanic is straightforward, but the decisions inside it are not. Understanding how keyframe timing, property selection, and value deltas interact is where motion design either works or falls apart. This video walks that foundation without assuming prior animation knowledge.

Figma published companion documentation at their blog and help center, plus a separate resource on motion design principles. If you are moving from prototype triggers to timeline-based animation, this is the baseline you need before touching easing curves or staggered sequences.
