A modified mousetrap inside a cardboard housing is all it takes to build a functional airsoft Claymore mine. Instructables user RegiBlackwood published the full build, which uses wooden dowels to stake the device into the ground, mirroring the real M18A1's deployment method.
The mechanism is direct: the mousetrap is reinforced for a stronger spring throw, fitted with a sling loaded with BBs, and rigged to fire on a tripwire pull. The cardboard shell shapes the dispersal cone. Total cost is minimal. The engineering problem worth reading the original for is how the sling mount and tripwire geometry are solved to get reliable, repeatable fire.
This is a point-defense tool for airsoft that adds a layer of area denial most setups ignore. Pair it with an OpenCV-based automated turret, which Hackaday covered in 2017, and you have a defensible position that does not require a human trigger finger.
