A cargo bike became a rolling RV for Burning Man. Builder Attoparsec extended the cargo bed rearward to fit a sleeping human, added two trailer jacks with wheels to fix the resulting tail-heaviness, and finished the sleeping enclosure with rigid foam insulation taped together in a style designed to block sun and playa dust.
The drivetrain got a chain upgrade to handle the extra load, and a solar-powered refrigerator was added before the desert trip. The build held up through a rainstorm without leaking, but the modified drivetrain required percussive maintenance: hitting one of the wheels with a hammer to keep it moving. That detail alone is worth watching the embedded video for.
Attoparsec left Burning Man early, so the full stress test is incomplete. The broader trend is real: pedal-powered campers are multiplying, and builder Paul Elkins has been iterating on gas-powered bicycle camper trailers since at least 2022. The question the original article leaves open is how these vehicles survive beyond permissive, car-free event spaces.
