DJJules built a windproof stereo microphone for bike-mounted action cameras, solving two problems at once: wind noise and the poor audio quality of built-in mics. The Bike Mike uses two electret microphones in a 3D printed frame, each wrapped in foam and surrounded by a furry windscreen cage. Output is a 3.5 mm connector fed into a super slim USB-C microphone adapter, making it plug-and-play with modern action cameras.
The build is an evolution of his 2022 DIY stereo mic designed for DSLRs. This version adds the USB-C adapter integration and a mount specific to action camera form factors, broadening compatibility without complicating the design. The soldering is minimal, the parts are printable, and the whole assembly is functionally equivalent to commercial wind-resistant mics that cost multiples of what this takes to build.
